Course Description

This introductory course aims at helping students to appreciate the creative potential of video art. Students will learn the theories and practical skills of single video production, with an emphasis on using video as a creative tool for storytelling and communication. Students will acquaint and explore with the creative components and the concepts used for that expression.

  1. Appreciate the different forms and expressive potential of film and video art
  2. Acquire some expressive tools for video art
  3. Express creative ideas through the narrative and dramatic form of video art

Session 1: Basic tenets of a dramatic story

Session 2: Exploring and defining “protagonist” and “quest”

Session 3: Exploring and defining “antagonist” and “premise”
Session 4: Introducing the 3-act structure, the climax and the denouement.
Session 5: Present and pitch your proposed story
Session 6: Camera/Lighting/Sound workshop
Session 7: Editing workshop
Session 8: Introducing the idea of production process
Session 9: Introducing some aesthetic concepts and applications of camera works and lighting
Session 10: Applications of art direction and color
Session 11: Applications of editing and film music
Session 12: Presentation of Final Project
