Course Objectives
In a science and technology university, HKUST sees the value of art education in awakening students’ artistic mind and developing their ability to explore and express in various artistic means, as this will eventually impact on their future career and personal development.
Targeting at students with little or no prior exposure to arts, the HKUST Common Core Program offers a variety of studio arts courses that seek to spark their interest in the study of art. These courses stress on hands-on practice of the art form; while at the same time introduce students to the basic theories, history, and cultural and social background of that art form. At the end of the course, students will gain a basic understanding of the arts, and be able to express their affections, ideas and thoughts through the art form or media they learn from the course.
All studio arts courses are listed under the Arts area of the Common Core Program and serve all of the intended learning outcomes of the Area:
- Appreciate the theory, history and practice of the arts
- Express themselves through various art forms or media
Students completing these courses can use them to fulfill the Core Elective requirement of the Common Core Program.
