Dr Lam receives his doctoral degree (Summa Cum Laude, first-class honors) at the Maryland Rochville Theatre, and his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at the University of Winnipeg Theatre School (Major in Acting). As the first professional mime artist in Hong Kong, Dr Lam is the recognized member of the American Drama Guild Association and is chosen by the Editorial Board of Oxford Press as one of the most influential people in Hong Kong Theatre. His name has been included in Who's Who in Contemporary World Theatre.
He joined the School of Drama at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts as the Head of Acting and taught for 23 years. He has also been an active actor of television, movie and theatre. His performance in “Death of a Salesman” and “Don’t Dress for Dinner” earned him the Best Supporting Actor Award from the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Society.
He has directed several famous plays of Shakespeare, Molière, Jean Genet etc., and a number of local and Broadway musicals. He received the Hong Kong Drama Awards of Best Director and Best Performance of the Year with his directing work “The End of Long River”. Dr Lam was invited by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre in 2009 to direct the Shakespeare play “Richard III” and was the pioneer in staging Cantonese version of Shakespearean historical plays in Hong Kong.
Dr Lam is now a part-time lecturer of Hong Kong Baptist University, and lecturer of HKUSPACE Diploma in Theatre Studies. He is the Artistic Advisor to Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Artistic Advisor and Board Committee member of Employees Retraining Board and The Skills Upgrading Scheme of the Labour Bureau.
