Course Description

Through drawing a human figure, students can examine the elements of drawing a human form and explore observational drawing skills by investigating proportion, forms and gestures. Student will also learn experimental approaches which emphasize on rendering, mood, expression, and abstraction. Various conventional and unconventional media, such as charcoal, pencil, markers, will be taught and used during the course.

Remarks
Art Supplies (prepared by students; estimated cost: $300-350)
Ink, Marker, Charcoal, Drawing Pencils, Eraser, Scissors, Glue and a drawing paper pad of 30 sheets 160gm paper.


  1. Acquire various skills in observation on figure drawings.
  2. Develop and extend existing and experimental drawing skills, techniques and styles.
  3. Describe the importance of experimental drawing and appreciate related artists and artworks.
  4. Create artworks with personal expressions.

Week 1-2: Introduction and Outline Contour

Week 3: Continuous Line Contour

Week 4: Blind Drawing – Relationship between observation and hand (drawing) movement

Week 5: Collaborative Figure Drawing

Week 6: Chiaroscuro – strong contrast between light and dark

Week 7: Self Portrait Assignment and Discussion

Week 8: Collage – how to assemble different forms of graphics/images into a figure

Week 9-10: Abstract Figure

Week 11: Final assignment development

Week 12: Exhibition Design

Week 13: Final Exhibition Critique
