Call For Course Proposals

About the Courses…

Targeting at students with little or no prior exposure to arts, the HKUST Common Core Program offers a variety of studio arts courses that seek to spark their interest in the study of art. These courses stress on hands-on practice of the art form; while at the same time introduce students to the basic theories, history, and cultural and social background of that art form. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to appreciate the theory, history and practice of the arts, and to express their affections, ideas and thoughts through the art form or media they learn from the course.

Currently, more than 30 studio arts courses are available for offer on a regular basis, spanning a wide range of art forms from performing arts, to visual arts, and film and media arts. As a continuing effort to further enrich and diversify this collection of courses, we welcome seasoned art practitioners with tertiary teaching experience to join us to help develop and teach practicum arts courses in these art areas: theatre, dance, music, painting and drawing, photography, design, computer graphics, animation, site-specific art, film and digital media art. Courses that integrate or cut across different art areas will be particularly welcome.

Invitation to Join the Teaching Team…

Part-time teaching positions at the Instructor rank are available. Our instructors should have a master’s degree in a related discipline and at least 5 years of relevant teaching experience at tertiary level. We value those who can demonstrate their enthusiasm and passion in arts education, promote arts among students to arouse their interest, and contribute to the development of the HKUST arts curriculum. Those with proven record of successful teaching of arts courses for beginning undergraduates will be highly valued.

Appointment is on a part-time, course by course basis. The appointment duration is linked to the duration of courses to be taught.

Interested applicants are invited to send a cover letter, curriculum vitae and a brief course proposal to hartcourses@ust.hk. The course proposal form can be downloaded from here.
