Course Description
This course aims at introducing the versatile qualities of singing and its important role in performing arts. It will start with individual singing, then progress to duet and ensemble singing. Singing techniques employed in various performances nowadays, such as pop singing, musicals and a cappella will be studied, analyzed and practiced. Furthermore, students will experience basic stage and body movement techniques and to incorporate them into singing to spice up a performance. No previous singing or performing experience is required.
- Describe and analyze the distinctiveness of various singing styles, techniques and genres
- Critique and appreciate a singing performance
- Acquire singing skills in various genres, e.g. solo, ensemble and musicals
- Present a singing performance with appropriate techniques and styles
Week 1-2: Pop singing – Breathing & Vocal Production
Week 3: Harmonizing a pop melody
Week 4: Singing in a group
Week 5: Introduction to a cappella singing
Week 6: Physical awareness as a singer
Week 7-8: Musical singing – Vocal projection & Presenting a Song
Week 9-12 A cappella singing and rehearsal
